DIY skincare was how I got my start over 30 years ago! Oh, the endless tales I have of home crafting hundreds of skin care products, especially in my early years of learning about skin.
Skincare products are very much like food and everyone has their own favorites and preferences. My style of being an at-home Skin Care Chef has evolved tremendously over time.
What I Learned From DIY Skin Care
Fifteen years ago, I discovered the one thing that could not be made in the kitchen, in which there is no substitute, is holistically-engineered, stabilized Dermal Nutrients. These nutrients revolutionized what I thought was possible for skin rejuvenation and changed everything for my professional career as an esthetician!
DIY Skin Care Advice
For the adventurous or seasoned Do-It-Yourselfers, my best and simple advice would be to make things that are gentle, hydrating, and full of cold-pressed organic oils.
Take sanitation seriously to avoid contamination and make small batches. Stay away from most essential oils, drying clay masks, and aggressive facial scrubs, as they are too astringent for our skin.
My early years of DIY skincare were soaked in essential oils and I quicky developed a toxic overload from them. I had incorrectly assumed that because they were natural that thet would have zero negative effects. There is more information out about this now. I have to admit all of the scents were so seductive, compelling and delicious to surround myself with but I eventually discovered that the vast majority of them are much too astringent for our facial skin.
Skip the recipes for oily skin that are astringent. Our body skin likes more exfoliation than our facial skin. Consider learning how to use essential oils for cooking, home cleaning products, and perfumery. And lastly, splurge and make anything with rose essential oil or honey.
